I haven't found any validity to the blood type diets with anyone I know who has given it a shot.  All I had to do is look at what they suggested for a A - blood to know I would not fare well on those foods.  Paleo is basically a low carb and all natural no processed food type of thing, and it is what works best for my body.  There is a lot of hype between "light" foods mostly non animal vegetarian and a "heavy" paleo diet with a lot of meat and fat.  Lots of claims that somehow an animal free diet is more spiritual etc.  It's a lot of crap, humans were created to process animal protein it is the only whole protein source that gives us 100% of the essential amino acids.  We were also created to adapt to different environments, which is why some people can do well on a vegetarian diet when they know their proteins and are careful to get all the essential amino acids.  Each of us has to learn to listen to our own body instead of listening to other experts.  I had been low carb for a time and was doing well and got drawn into the vegetarian thing and it almost killed me, because it is not right for my body.

Way back when people who lived farther from the equator ate mostly meat and fat with some fruit and veggies in the summer and what could be dried or stored into winter.  Those in the tropics ate a lot of fish and fruits and veggies.  Interestingly enough when you look at the issue of Candida overgrowth, in the northern group in late winter early spring when what was stored ran out the people had a period each year when any Candida overgrowth was killed during a period where not enough carbs were eaten to support Candida overgrowth.  in the tropics a staple of the diet was coconut and coconut has the highest levels of caprylic acid of any food so those eating a continuous level of carbs also ate a continuous level of a substance that kills Candida.

After so much time has passed we have the genetic history from both ways of eating and need to determine which is dominant in our body.  Some people are more balanced and can tolerate lots of different elements of meat and vegetable source with no difficulties.  Within my own family my mom and brother can eat lots of fruits veggies and even refined carbs and do ok, but I can't eat that way at all.  It makes it really hard because all the family gathering type times my mom has the place filled with food that I like, but my body suffers if I eat it.
