Also one important note is that in religion or the new age movement there is some truth that the dark forces pull out and specifically target by taking them over, so to speak, Angels are the perfect example, they know what angels are and are not, but they choose to portray them in one way through religion and in another way through new age crap so that no one will know what angels are.  In both places though they exalt them so that Christians or new agers will think anything angel is good, when they know that an angel can be good, bad or anything in between. 
 
They were fearful of Mediumship giving people too much information and power, so they made sure Christians were afraid of it and thought it was of the devil, and then called it channeling and made it the darling of the new age movement, knowing full well they were going to send programming to people open to receive it, of dark info for the new "channels" to convey.   So beyond all the manipulation there are angels and there are actual mediums, most of whom simply are clairaudient.  Then they give themselves bonus points for pitting the Christians against the new agers.
 
I saw one really interesting example in the 1991 I was at a psychic fair with some friends in Bellingham Washington.  and a big motor home showed up and parked out in the parking lot and put a huge banner out on the motor home that said "Jesus is Lord Over Bellingham"   They came to the building talking about how everything inside was evil, proceeded to anoint the building, and prayed for the building to fall down on everyone inside killing all the evil doers.  I said to one woman, have you considered the possibility that there could be a curious teenager or something inside who has never been to one of these things and would be an innocent of sorts that had never done anything evil in relation to your perspective?  She got this blank look on her face like a zombie and said everyone in there is evil and God will make this building fall on them.  It was scary!
 
Unfortunately that just makes for MORE discernment to do, but they love to take a threatening concept twist it in some negative way and hide it in a religion or spiritual movement  In time you learn to see clues to what it is they want to hide and start to turn it back around to find out what truth they are trying to obscure.  It will always be something empowering.  When you discover it and talk about it, of course then all the religious people start screaming blasphemy in some form or another, because they believe the opposite.  I guess my point overall though is that we cannot throw out the WHOLE of anything if we want to know the truth, but study it instead for the clues.  Not that you have to know all the truth, but once you start to discover truth, stopping would be hard.  Unraveling truth becomes almost an addiction of sorts.  Most people will disregard whole aspects of things while they are learning to hone their discernment, like the new age stuff because it is easier than digging through it all.  That's an ok thing as long as you know that is what you are doing instead of just saying it's ALL crap. You can't start any religion or spiritual movement on 100% lies because souls would never fall for that.  It has to have some percentage of truth to get it going, and then the percentage drops the longer it has been established. For example basic Metaphysical principals that spiritual people have known forever were tossed into the new age soup for the purpose of getting people to stop taking them seriously.  They are easier to pull out because the new age movement is not as old as Christianity.  Finding the core truths in Christianity is far more difficult after 2000 years of manipulation, but it can be done.  I have met a few people in my life that live in that core place as Christians and don't buy into all the mainstream Christian crap.
 
I don't mean to make it seem even more confusing    just to say, one day at a time, your spirit self will bring you things as you are ready to sift through them and we should try to avoid the temptation to throw a whole genre of information out the door.  If it hits us and feels like too much to digest and discern, you can simple look at it and say ok this is for another day, cause it is just too much right now.
