The upside of changes that are this big is that they happen very fast when the whole of the crust breaks and slips in a massive change the safe places may actually have less damage then during a smaller pole shift, It is just that the safe places are smaller and there will be fewer survivors. Spirit has described the best of these points as "pivot points" close to circular areas that connect down to the earth core stability and everything kind of moves and changes around them. There are survivable areas outside of these pivot points as well and the flathead had a few pockets. The key there to keeping a home workable for example would be to retrofit a house with big California style earthquake technology or better yet build one from scratch although there is not a lot of time left for that. Planning the indoors of the house to accommodate movement by not having things up high that could fall bolting furniture down and so forth is a good idea in the flathead. most of the survivable area in the flathead will be islands so you need to be up high and to the west of the lake and valley. The mission mountains are stable themselves but will get a good slam from the swans and the slopes will come right down to the water. There will be a lot of action there! No way to avoid that but it will be an absolutely beautiful tropical island area just off the mainland with massive mountains as a backdrop. Because of the island situation food would also be of utmost concern as the wildlife would be limited on the islands. A five year supply is good idea and seeds that are appropriate for the settled tropical climate after all is said and done.
There are some properties up on the hills from Phillipsburg north to the freeway that are west of the divide and will be more stable than the flathead, but currently are at a higher elevation, which presents a challenge for planting a good orchard or garden. There are also survivable areas on the east side high hills of the bitterroot. There will be a break in the bitterroot valley floor and that will create a salt water sound.
